Important Players To Keep An Eye On - db Broadcast
Traditionally, broadcasters have wanted to buy technology, build a system, install it and pay for it. Today, broadcasters are increasingly turning to a new model in which they pay only for the technology and services they use for any given period, which can help to spread costs.
And that means opportunities arise continually.
Many of those opportunities are snapped up by those individuals and businesses who are both sharp enough to spot them before their competitors and have the nous to execute and achieve commercial success.
Here, Frame 25 looks at five such companies: what they’re doing, who they’re doing it with, and why they matter.
Who: dB Broadcast
Based: Ely, Cambridgeshire
What they do: Established in 1989, they’re the UK’s largest independent system integrator, respected for their work in both traditional and IP-based broadcast systems.
Why they’re important: The rapid growth of the company and volume of installations they’ve been involved in make them a player to watch.
In 2014, dB Broadcast employed about 50 people. Today, about 150 employees – including staff and contractors – handle some of the largest broadcast industry projects.
For example, dB Broadcast delivered a new facility for Bloomberg TV’s European headquarters in central London which is 4K/UHD and IP-based throughout.
dB Broadcast have also been involved with more traditional undertakings, such as clearing bandwidth at 72 transmitter sites to enable Ofcom to sell the space.
Who they work with (selected): Sky, Bloomberg, BBC, BT Sport, Red Bee
In the news: As well as their recognition in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 listing as one of the fastest-growing technology companies in the UK, dB Broadcast have been involved in Rise, a project to educate children about opportunities in broadcast tech.
